As a non-profit organization, Historic Milwaukee relies heavily on its volunteers in all facets of the organization. Volunteers conduct our walking tours as well as assist with research projects and day-to-day office activities. All special events need volunteers in order to be successful.

Volunteer for Spaces & Traces 2012
Happening in the Historic Concordia Neighborhood!
Scheduled May 2012
HMI needs YOU to make our Spaces & Traces event a success! We are currently searching for 100 individuals to fill various volunteer positions, including guides, house captains, registration, and more at several historic sites throughout the community. Positions and shifts are both very flexible. As an added bonus, volunteers will receive their S&T tickets at half-price!
We also have some committee positions this year that we would like to have filled for the 2012 S&T Tour. Please take a look and see if you’d be interested in volunteering for one next year!

Committee Volunteer
Historic Milwaukee has so much to offer the community and it is all accomplished through the passion and generosity of our volunteers.
We are making a special appeal to increase active participation in our committees.
Is there a tour, program or event you’ve always wanted to pitch?
Do you have marketing or fundraising ideas, a community connection you think is just perfect for Historic Milwaukee?
We need the type of exceptional and dedicated individuals who are our community to help stabilize and grow our operations, from research to finances. Help us to increase the impact of our mission.
Below are the Committee needs and meeting times. All meetings take place at the Historic Milwaukee office at 828 N. Broadway Suite 110, Milwaukee, WI 53202.
Please call Anna-Marie Opgenorth, Executive Director, at 414–277–7795 to discuss your interest and stay tuned for a follow-up report on Committee progress in our next issue of Echo.
Programming
This committee needs 8 - 10 fixed members,
and is dedicated to creating programs for the organization to present to the public, and actually has several sub-committees, including
- Spaces & Traces (our major fundraiser) and
- Research (researching historical facts on buildings in our tours).
Programming determines which walking tours we do each year and has a hand in helping to up-date tour information, set the schedule for our walking season and generate ideas for new tours. Programming meets the second Tuesday of the month from 5:30 - 7 p.m. (no August or December meeting).
The Programming Committee envisions and plans all of our tours and special programs such as Focus and Bus Tours.
Marketing
This committee needs 8 - 10 fixed members.
Meets the second Wednesday of every month at 5:30PM.
The Marketing and Fundraising committees are meeting together for the next 3–6 months while we establish protocol and define their charges. The Marketing Committee determines the marketing strategies for the organization, looks at ways to help promote events, and works closely with Fundraising and Programming to help promote our various tours and events. *Until the fall of this year the Marketing & Fundraising Committees will focus on planning our annual Fundraising Event.
Fundraising
This committee needs 3 - 5 fixed members.
For the next 3–6 months the Fundraising Committee will meet with the Marketing Committee on the second Wednesday of every month at 5:30PM.
We are looking for creative people who can generate ideas for fundraisers that appeal to a broad range of members and the public. Fundraising will also oversee special programs designed to help increase awareness of HMI and increase our membership. *Until the fall of this year the Marketing & Fundraising Committees will focus on planning our annual Fundraising Event.
Finance
This committee needs 3 - 5 fixed members.
Meets the second Monday of every month at 5:30PM.
The Finance Committee will be meeting every month through the summer and fall to ensure that Historic Milwaukee has stability and longevity in its future. This committee is looking for people who enjoy working with budgets and are financial pros, to help keep the organization on a financial track by reviewing the budget before it goes to the board, advise on unusual expenses (major expenditures, etc.) and work with the treasurer.
Communications
This committee needs 5 - 8 fixed members.
Meets the 3rd Thursday of every month at 5:30PM.
Next meeting to be announced.
The Communications Committee oversees the production and design of our quarterly publication, Echo, as well as how we communicate via our website. Our improved site is in “wiki” technology – a VERY easy language to learn and update the site with. We will also be launching an updated version of Echo in January of 2008; it is an exciting time to join!
Special Event Volunteer
We need volunteers to assist at our special events, especially Spaces & Traces. Duties range from collecting tickets to assisting tour guides.
Office Volunteer
Volunteers are needed to help stuff envelopes and stick address labels when mailings are done. Other work, such as filing and organizing, is always plentiful. Ability to work with a computer is welcome for data entry projects. Even a few hours of your time could be a big help to us.
Research Committee
This committee needs 3 - 5 fixed members.
Meets with the Programming Committee.
The Research Committee develops and maintains the professional level of our tour Scripts as well as engaging in research for special projects.
Volunteers make us great
Without them we would accomplish very little. We know that everyone is busy these days and that is why we promise people that whatever you can offer in the way of your time is enough . . . we won’t ask for more unless you volunteer it!
