Welcome to Milwaukee’s Fashionable East Side
Located adjacent to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the Kenwood Park & Prospect Hill subdivisions contain an abundance of elegant, high-style residences which continue to reflect their original grandeur. Indeed, the aforementioned subdivisions include a residential historic district comprising over 540 homes that was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. We featured this notable neighborhood in 2003 and we are exceptionally happy to return here for Historic Milwaukee’s 27th Annual Spaces & Traces, open-house tour.
This year’s one-day-only tour showcases eight, never-seen-before, private homes that were designed by Milwaukee’s most noted architectural firms, including Ferry & Clas, Leenhouts & Guthrie and Fernekes & Cramer. Furthermore, we have confirmed that one of our tour-day houses had original interior work done by George Mann Niedecken. In addition, three former and/or current religious facilities are open for touring—one of which will teach us about Jewish faith in Milwaukee, while another will provide us with a look into the current practices of Chinese Christians.
Architectural styles of the homes and public spaces include English Arts & Crafts, Italian Renaissance and Prairie-influenced designs. Not only do the tour buildings exhibit outstanding exteriors, they also display impressive interior features including—but not limited to—extensive original woodwork, impressive fireplaces, notable art glass, decorative plaster trim and spectacular marble floors. Please join us for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the grandeur of this historic neighborhood.
